This course will focus on recent updates in the Florida world of resiliency. As the state continues to implement its groundbreaking Resilient Florida program, legislative changes to the program, recent rule adoption and other program elements will be discussed as well as recent awards, funding levels and important information to help successfully participate in the program. DEP and other expert speakers will provide this overview. Vulnerability assessment requirements (VA) – a prerequisite for local capital program funding – will be highlighted. Additionally, synergies exist now with harmonizing various elements of floodplain management and resiliency planning. Experts from Pinellas and Monroe Counties and the private sector will discuss how recent evolutions in the National Flood Insurance Program and other general floodplain management concepts are shaping new policies on managing risk and our land use. Forecasts on the future of these valuable programs and relationships will be presented to help you manage your work and policy response. Local response to new FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) – including the nexus between FIRMs and VAs – will be highlighted.
