This is an advanced course appropriate for trial and appellate lawyers, alike. The CLE will provide detailed content on how trial lawyers – and the appellate lawyers who assist them at trial and beyond – can preserve error for appeal, taking the audience through each stage of a case with a focus on trial. Specifically, there will be segments on: working with appellate lawyers at trial, pretrial and discovery issues, trial evidentiary issues, jury selection, closing arguments, jury instructions, verdict forms, jury questions and conduct, motions for directed verdict, and post-trial motions. The CLE will aid lawyers in knowing when they should (and must) object, how often they must object and whether they must renew their objections, how to raise certain issues on appeal, and overall, how to run a clean case and trial for an appeal.
