Through the Public Assistance program, FEMA provides local governments financial assistance for major disasters. In January 2025, FEMA issued an update to its Public Assistance Program and Policy Guide (PAPPG v.5). This update came on the heels of changes to the federal grant regulations in the Fall of 2024 and preceded numerous Presidential directives that affect FEMA’s programs and objectives. In this session, we will provide a brief overview of the Public Assistance program and recent changes that impact this hurricane season and beyond.
